Tuition-Free 4-year-old Kindergarten
The pre-primary program is a three-year program for children aged three to six. Ideally the child will enroll at age three and spend three years in the same classroom, with the same teacher. The pre-primary classroom is prepared and filled with carefully chosen manipulative learning materials. Children, guided by the specially trained Montessori teacher, choose their work from among the beautifully arranged, self-correcting materials. Through working with the materials, the children grow toward self-discipline, order, and concentration. Dr. Montessori speaks of the "absorbent mind" as this period in a child's development when he or she exhibits a heightened capacity to absorb everything from the surrounding environment. Music, physical education, art, and Spanish are also integrated into the pre-primary and kindergarten program.
In collaboration with the Wausau School District, Mountain View Montessori offers a tuition-free four-year-old kindergarten from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. or from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. We also offer an all-day five-year-old kindergarten session from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Families outside of the Wausau School District may apply for free tuition kindergarten during the open enrollment period.
As required by our state operating license, all students enrolled in the pre-primary Montessori programs must be completely toilet-trained. No diapers or pull-ups are allowed to be worn in the pre-primary classrooms. Our staff will assist a child who has had a toilet accident. However, in accordance with our license, we cannot retain a child who continues to have toilet accidents.
